Emily Talbot

Thursday and Friday One-to-Ones
Submission Requirements: please upload cover letter, synopsis and first three chapters for fiction. For picture books cover letter and one picture book properly paginated/split into spreads.
Looking for:  Picture books, middle-grade and young adult. In picture books, subject matter can be varied as long as it's suitable for the age group. Particularly looking for funny, voice-led young fiction and middle-grade - the more mad-cap and bonkers the better. Middle-grade fantasy also very welcome as long as the world building is strong. In young adult, she’d love to find a heart-warming and commercial romance story - something like One Day but for a younger audience.

Emily is an Associate Agent in the office of Jodie Hodges, and also represents children's illustrators and authors of picture books, middle grade, teenage and YA. She loves books that touch on the gritty realisms of life such as the writing of Louise O'Neill and Holly Bourne.  She is also on the lookout for middle grade of any kind; everything from authentic and emotive to humorous adventure. Above all she has a passion for great characterisation and is on the hunt for a distinctive, new voice in children’s literature, whatever age group it falls in. She is also looking for picture book authors and illustrators and her favourite picture books are those with an off-the-wall, irreverent humour. Not Now Bernard frames many a childhood memory for me, for example.
